Recently, the Phoenix Zoo was a proud recipient of the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce’s distinguished IMPACT Awards for Response to Adversity in the Large Business Sector.
For 27 years the Greater Phoenix Chamber of Commerce has been honoring the accomplishments of Valley businesses and recognizing the impact they’ve had on the greater Phoenix business community. The IMPACT Awards showcase companies that have made an impact in these categories: Community Champion, Economic Driver, Entrepreneurial Excellence and Response to Adversity. Initially, the Zoo was one of 22 nominees in the large company category. From those 22 nominees, four companies were recognized, one in each of the four categories. Each of these local businesses was nominated based on their accomplishments and their impact on the business community and local economy.
The Zoo was honored with this award for the successful completion of our A World Class Zoo For A World Class City Capital Campaign. Within days of launching our Capital Campaign in October, 2008, the stock market plunged and the world began to feel the effects of the financial instability of this global economic crisis. While the Capital Campaign took nearly twice as long as originally anticipated, it was ultimately successful thanks to our staff, volunteers, Board of Directors and most importantly, the support of the community. We were able to reach our original campaign goal of $20 million and even surpassed it by an additional $2.9 million.
You can see the Zoo’s story and long road to a successful Capital Campaign in this video that was created for the award ceremony.
