Phoenix Zoo Capital Campaign Leadership
Arizona Zoological Society Board Chair, Chris Hogan recently announced that the Phoenix Zoo has reached another major pinnacle of success with the securing of top level community leadership of Tom Ambrose and Ed Fox as the Capital Campaign Co-Chairs. Mr. Hogan expressed his sincere appreciation and gratitude to these key individuals and indicated that the Phoenix Zoo, a major community asset in this region, could not have chosen any better individuals who are more dedicated or knowledgeable about the Zoo.
“We are fortunate to have both Tom and Ed leading this important project and helping us in this vital stage of our development.” The Zoo has served this community for more than 46 years and is a private non-profit organization dependent upon donations and support. Both Mr. Fox and Mr. Ambrose are committed to helping the Phoenix Zoo raise the necessary funds in this campaign in order to build a world class zoo for a world class city.
Edward Z. Fox
Ed Fox is Vice President and Chief Sustainability Officer at Arizona Public Service Company (APS). He oversees the company’s environmental, health and safety programs and the Technology Development Group that identifies and helps integrate emerging technologies -- such as solar energy and fuel cells -- into company operations.
Mr. Fox is an attorney and prior to coming to Arizona in 1985. From 1985 to 1991, Mr. Fox was in private practice in Phoenix and Tucson, Arizona, where he represented business clients on state, federal and local environmental issues. In 1991, Mr. Fox was appointed by Arizona’s Governor to serve as the Director of the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality where he served until 1995 when he joined APS.
Mr. Fox has served on numerous committees including the Governor’s Climate Change Task Force and Brown Cloud Summit, as well as sub-committee chair for the Governor’s Growing Smarter Commission and initiatives for improving Phoenix’s air quality. He has also served various organizations’ including ASU Morrison Institute Advisory Board, Liberty Wildlife Board of Directors, Maricopa Partnership for Arts and Culture Board of Directors and Arizona Zoological Society Board of Directors and many more.
Mr. Fox received his J. D. with honors from the West Virginia University. He holds a Masters in Public Administration and a B. A. from the American University in Washington, D.C.
Tom Ambrose
Tom Ambrose is the Senior Vice President, Executive Director of Phoenix Suns Charities. He joined the Suns in 1973 as public relations director. He was instrumental in the establishment of Phoenix Suns Charities, the team foundation supporting non-profit organizations that have serve youth in the areas of education, health and human services, the arts, sports and recreation.
In the year 2000, Ambrose was honored as a “Leader of Distinction” by the Anti-Defamation League (ADL), received the Jesse Owens Award from the Phoenix Memorial Hospital Foundation and was named “Sports Executive of the Year” by the Phoenix Chapter of the March of Dimes. In 2004, he was honored as the Non-Medical Volunteer of the Year by the Pacific/Mountain affiliate of the American Heart Association. In April 2005, the Anti-Defamation League honored him with the Martin L. Shultz Community Partnership Award.
In addition to his commitment to the Phoenix Zoo, Ambrose is involved with many other community organizations including the Arizona Affiliate of the Partnership for a Drug Free America, the Men’s Anti-Violence Network (M.A.N.), Drugs Don’t Work in Arizona and the Children’s Museum of Phoenix.
Ambrose graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 1970. He started his public relations career with The Arizona Republic and Phoenix Gazette before joining the Suns organization in 1973.
