Orangutan
ABOUT
Appearance: Bornean orangutans’ coats vary from orange to brown and maroon. They have hair on their foreheads and arms that runs in both directions towards their elbows, which helps shed rain water. Males have fatty pads on the sides of their faces, deep-set eyes and a large throat pouch that extends under their arms and over their shoulders.
Habitat: These orangutans only live on the island of Borneo in South East Asia.
Family Life: Orangutans normally live in solitary due to the need for large amounts fruits and the patches of food in the rainforest being so small. Adult females will live with their most recent offspring.
Threats: Threats include habitat loss due to palm plantations and capture of baby orangutans for sale.
